Fritz Köhlein

Fritz Köhlein (born December 26, 1924 in Bayreuth ) is a German non-fiction author who mainly publishes popular garden and plant books.

After being a prisoner of war, he worked as a paint chemist. Initially active as a collector and breeder of the species Hemerocallis , Iris , Lilium , Sempervivum and Hosta , he began his work as a writer in 1963, first through articles in specialist journals and later as a book author. In 1977 he became deputy president of the Gesellschaft der Staudenfreunde e. V. (GdS), a voluntary activity that he held for nine years. Since the journal Gartenpraxis was published , he has been a member of the advisory board of this journal. Köhlein lives in Bindlach .

He has received numerous awards: in July 1988, the University of Bayreuth awarded him an honorary doctorate in natural sciences (Dr. rer.nat.hc), the 1990 Book Prize from the German Horticultural Society, and the Karl Foerster Medal in bronze from the Society of Perennial Friends , Silver and gold and the Karl Foerster ring from the Central Horticultural Association.
