Fritz Kaiser (born September 27, 1891 in Villingen in the Black Forest ; † May 15, 1974 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German landscape painter and portraitist .

life and work

Fritz Kaiser was the son of a cigar wholesaler and received musical and artistic support early on. After graduating from high school in Donaueschingen , he studied at the Karlsruhe Art Academy and the music conservatory there. In the First World War , as well as later in the Second , Kaiser moved as a war volunteer. Since 1919 he was based in Freiburg im Breisgau , from where he went on educational trips to other European countries. In 1926 Kaiser moved to Frankfurt am Main , and after 1933 he was actively involved in the National Socialist art scene in terms of culture and politics. He became a member of the Nazi Party and entered 1936 in the conformist Frankfurt artists society, whose chairman he became the 1939th His romantic homeland motifs of landscapes, genre scenes and portraits found national recognition during this time. Some of his paintings were acquired by the Berlin Reich Chancellery and the Foreign Office, a female nude from 1935 was shown at the World Exhibition in Paris. In 1944 Kaiser received the title of professor in Berlin. Even after the war he remained a sought-after portrait painter.
