history

The company was founded in 1860 by Rudolf Friedrich Meyer, who opened a wagon factory in Basel . A few years later, a wagon keeping with 25 horses was attached to the wagon .

In 1916, the company switched to motorized means of transport and acquired the first truck . In 1924 the company was converted into a stock corporation and thus Fritz Meyer AG . In 1925 the company entered the trading business with liquid fuels, which was followed two years later by entering the business with products from the petrochemical industry (lubricants, oils, fats). Auto Service Aeschenplatz AG was founded in 1929, today's ASAG Auto-Service AG .

In 1997 Fritz Meyer took over the petrol station operator AVIA Distribution SA in Lausanne and Geneva. The company, which has meanwhile grown into a group, gave itself a holding structure in 1998. In the same year, the former ARAL filling stations in French-speaking Switzerland were added to the AVIA network.

The auto trade and garages area was expanded through various takeovers in the late 1990s and early 2000s and finally merged in 2004 to form ASAG Auto-Service AG. In the mid-2000s, the heating oil sector was also expanded through various acquisitions.
