Fritz Schiess-Forrer (born July 15, 1880 in Lutzenberg , † September 19, 1978 in Lichtensteig ) was a Swiss inventor and entrepreneur . He invented the fine-cut punching machine and was the founder of Fritz Schiess AG.

Life

Fritz Schiess was the son of Heinrich and Louise Schiess, née Leuch. After an apprenticeship as a locksmith, he studied mechanical engineering at the Technikum Winterthur from 1901 to 1904 . He then worked as a design engineer at the Oerlikon machine tool factory and then from 1914 to 1920 as production manager at Brown, Boveri & Cie.

With his invention of fineblanking , Fritz Schiess-Forrer founded his own company in Lichtensteig in the canton of St. Gallen in 1920 . Between 1921 and 1922 he headed the design and construction of the world's first fine blanking press. In 1922 he was granted a patent for his hydraulic cutting and punching device for metal parts by the Reich Patent Office . Fritz Schiess-Forrer managed the company until 1955, which is now in the fourth generation under the name Fritz Schiess AG (since 1992). It takes over all the steps from development to series production for customers in various industries such as automotive or mechanical engineering. By mid-2016, the family-owned Fritz Schiess AG had produced over 6,800 parts and assemblies according to customer requirements (automotive industry, textiles, hand tools and apparatus construction, building services, mechanical engineering). The complete range of services includes tool development and its construction, assembly production, fineblanking as well as machining and heat and surface treatment .

He was married to Babette Schiess-Forrer, with whom he was granted honorary citizenship of the Wattwil community in 1960 .
