Fritz Schmidt ( October 31, 1842 in Darmstadt - March 5, 1898 in Dresden ) was a German theater actor .

Life

Schmidt originally devoted himself to ivory carving. His preference for the theater led to the stage as early as 1861, and he was a trainee at the Darmstadt court theater for five years .

He was then engaged as a youthful hero and lover at the theaters in Würzburg, Mainz, Königsberg and Breslau until he was hired to work at the Wallnertheater in Berlin in 1870. Schmidt worked there for 19 years and was one of the most popular and successful members of this stage during this time. He also made several guest tours with the ensemble of the Wallnertheater, and wherever he appeared, his rich talent was recognized everywhere. Especially in Dresden, where he often came on his guest tours, his achievements were received with approval.

When the father player of the Dresden court theater Emil Adolf Ferdinand Walther died, Schmidt was appointed in his place in 1889 (inaugural role: "General von Sommerfels" in War and Peace ), and just as he was earlier as "Mortimer", "Don Carlos", "Posa", "Faust", "Tell" achieved great success, so now his performances have been praised in the fathers' field. The artist died on March 5, 1898 in Dresden.
