Frobisher Bay between the Meta-Incognita and Hall peninsulas |
The Frobisher Bay ( English Frobisher Bay ) is an arm of the Labrador Sea , which extends from the southeast about 230 km into the Baffin Island in Nunavut in northeast Canada .
It is enclosed by the two peninsulas Meta-Incognita (in the southwest) and Hall (in the northeast). In its interior lies the coastal town of Iqaluit (formerly Frobisher Bay ).
The bay opens towards the Labrador Sea . Near this opening are Loks Island , Edgell Island and Resolution Island .
Frobisher Bay was discovered by Martin Frobisher in 1576 . At that time, however, he mistakenly assumed, based on the Zeno map , to be off the coast of Greenland .
