Onita Pro-Wrestling , or Onita Pro for short , is the name of a Japanese wrestling promotion based in Tokyo , Japan. The promoter is Atsushi Onita .

history

The history of the promotion begins in 1989 when the promotion Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling (FMW) was established by the wrestler Atsushi Onita .

Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling

Immediately after its formation, the FMW became known for its violent and bloodthirsty interpretation of pro-wrestling . Fire, glass and barbed wire were used in almost every match at the FMW.

The doctorate quickly specialized in the hardcore wrestling known at the time as " garbage wrestling " and has been working with IWA Japan and the US ECW since 1995 .

Cooperation with the ECW

The cooperation with the ECW brought about by the wrestlers Sabu and Mike Awesome has now brought US wrestling greats into the promotion. In addition to Awesome, Sabu and his uncle, Terry Funk , Balls Mahoney , Cactus Jack and the Sandman performed regularly . The FMW also brought out its own stars like Masato Tanaka . In 1999 the Japanese promotion World Entertainment Wrestling was acquired and incorporated by FMW .

Doctorate bankruptcy

In Japan, the FMW was in competition with the hardcore promotion Big Japan Pro-Wrestling . But with the sale of the doctorate to Shoichi Arai , he was said to have had contacts with the Yakuza at the end of 2001 , as the doctorate was now heavily in debt.

On February 15, 2002 the last FMW show took place, at the end of which league founder Onita spoke a few words to the fans. A little later, the doctorate filed for bankruptcy and was closed. Shoichi Arai committed suicide in Tokyo three months later by hanging himself in the city park.

Onita FMW / Onita Pro Wrestling

Shortly after the FMW was closed, Atsushi Onita reactivated the promotion on April 5, 2002 under the new Onita FMW banner . However, the doctorate could not build on the old successes and became a financial failure. Onita ceased operations on August 11, 2002.

In 2004 Onita reactivated the promotion under the banner of Onita Pro-Wrestling and has organized it at irregular intervals since then.
