Masato Tanaka ( Japanese 田中 将 斗 }, Tanaka Masato ; born February 28, 1973 in Wakayama , Wakayama Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese wrestler .

Career

Beginnings

Tanaka was trained by the wrestler Atsushi Onita , who established hardcore wrestling in Japan. He made his debut on July 23, 1993 in his PhD Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling .

Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling

In the FMW he earned the reputation of an extremely tough wrestler who also takes bad falls and hits to deliver a good show to the fans. He had brutal storyline feuds with Mike Awesome, who competed in Japan as The Gladiator .

Extreme Championship Wrestling

In 1998 he made his debut at Extreme Championship Wrestling and won the Tag Team Championship with Balls Mahoney in November of the same year . After Tanaka was active again for some time in Japan, he went back to the ECW in 1999 and won the ECW World Heavyweight Championship there . However, a week later he had to hand it over to Mike Awesome, who had returned from Japan. In the middle of 2000 Tanaka moved again to Japan and worked there for various associations in the near future.

Ring of Honor / National Wrestling Alliance

On November 9, 2002, Masato Tanaka joined Shinjiro Otani at an event for the Ring of Honor promotion .

In 2002 he and Shinjiro Otani won the NWA Intercontinental Tag Team Championship twice.

World Wrestling Entertainment

In 2005 and 2006, he made appearances at the WWE event ECW One Night Stand . At the first ECW One Night Stand, the old feud with Mike Awesome was recorded, at the second he went up against his friend Balls Mahoney .

Pro wrestling ZERO1-MAX

Currently he is mainly competing for the Japanese ZERO1 promotion . In October 2007 he was allowed to win the AWA Superstars World Heavyweight Championship there.

On April 25th, 2009 Masato Tanaka came to Germany for the first time . He took part in a wrestling event in Giessen called International Impact VI and organized by German Stampede Wrestling .
