Football match AS Adema - SOE Antananarivo 2002

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The football match AS Adema - SOE Antananarivo 2002 was played on October 31, 2002 at the Stade Olympique Emyrne in Antananarivo , the capital of Madagascar . The game ended 149-0. SOE Antananarivo scored own goals in protest after a dispute with the referee during the game of the THB Champions League , the first Malagasy football league . To date, the result is the highest documented victory in a football game.

prehistory

If the 1st Malagasy league came to an end at that time, a championship round was then held among the four best-placed clubs in the table. These four clubs formed their own group in which everyone had to play against each other twice (away and at home). Champion was the first in the table. In 2002 the championship round was held between the teams AS Adema , Domoina Soavina Atsimondrano , SOE Antananarivo and Union Sportive Ambohidratrimo . In the first four games, the reigning champions SOE Antananarivo earned one win, two draws and one defeat and thus reached 5 points. Rival AS Adema, on the other hand, had 10 points after five matchdays (three wins, one draw and one defeat). So SOE Antananarivo had to win the penultimate game against Domoina Soavina Atsimondrano in order to defend the championship with another victory in the last game and in the direct duel against AS Adema. SOE Antananarivo led 2-1 shortly before the end, before the referee of the game, Benjamina Razafintsalama, gave Domoina a penalty that Antananarivo felt was unjustified . The penalty kick was converted and the game ended 2-2, making AS Adema the new champions before the direct duel against SOE Antananarivo.

In protest, the SOE Antananarivo players shot the ball into their own goal immediately after each kick-off.

Consequences

As a result of this game locked the Malagasy association, the Fédération Malagasy de Football , the coach of the losing team Ratsimandresy Ratsarazaka (three-year professional ban and nationwide stadium ban), the goalkeeper and captain of the national team Mamisoa Razafindrakoto , the captain Manitranirina Andrianiaina and the player Nicolas Rakotoarimanana and Dominique Rakotonandrasana (suspension until the end of the season and stadium ban). All other SOE players received warnings.

The game broke several world records at the same time: the highest victory in a soccer game, the most own goals in a soccer game and a rate of about one own goal every 40 seconds. FA historian David Barber said of the incident:

"I've heard of a local league game in Nottingham that finished 50-2 and there was a 43-0 in an Austrian regional game before the second world war - but nothing this big."

("I heard about a local game in Nottingham that ended 50-2 and there was also a 43-0 in an Austrian regional game before WWII - but nothing of this size.")

Not only the result, but also the lack of image and video material about this game has given the 149: 0 legendary status in the international football scene.
