Fuamnach [ 'fuamnax ], also Fúamnach , is a member of the Túatha Dé Danann in the Celtic mythology of Ireland .

mythology

Fuamnach is in the story Tochmarc Étaíne the daughter or granddaughter of Iarbonel , the foster daughter of Bresal and the first wife of Midir . When Midir falls in love with Étaín , she tries to use her magical powers to destroy them. She transforms her rival into an ethereal being, then a seagull and finally a bee, all of which are carried away by the wind. After several entangled events that lasted for years, Fuamnach is finally beheaded by Oengus mac Og , who saved Etain and loves her.

The name Fuamnach is said to be derived from the word fumain ("head, neck scarf"), which gives the wearer its magical power.
