history

The ship was as hull number QS20060301 on the shipyard China Changjiang Shipping Group, Qingshan Shipyard in Wuhan , built, China. The new building was ordered on May 15, 2006. The keel was laid on August 16, the launch on December 17, 2007. The ship was completed on August 11, 2008.

The ship belonged to Beluga Shipping GmbH & Co. KG MS "Bremer Fortune", a one-ship company of Beluga Shipping. It was managed by Beluga Shipping.

Pirate attack in October 2010

The ship was attacked and captured by Somali pirates on October 24, 2010 . The ship sailing for Beluga Shipping made an emergency call at 07.08 a.m. ( CEST ). At that time, the freighter was in the Indian Ocean around 1,200  nautical miles east of the Kenyan port city of Mombasa on its way from the United Arab Emirates to the South African port of Richards Bay .

There were 16 crew members on board the ship , including two German and three Russian citizens. The crew brought the ship to a standstill by switching off the main engine, cutting off the fuel supply and then holing up in a security room . The EU NAVFOR Somalia sent the British frigate Montrose , which was closest to the hijacked cargo ship. She reached the ship the next day. The pirates then fled. The Beluga Fortune continued its journey to Richards Bay.

Whereabouts of the ship

After the bankruptcy of Beluga Shipping, the ship was initially continued to be operated by Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG , based in Hamburg , and in 2013 it was transferred to MS "Corrinna" Schiffahrtsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG, which belongs to Döhle. The new name under the management of Peter Döhle was Fortune .

In 2018 the ship was sold to BIFOR Shipping GmbH & CO KG, which belongs to BF Shipmanagement in Stade . It sails as BBC Fortune in charter for the BBC Chartering shipping company based in Leer .
