The F-Series is a class of multi-purpose vessels from the former Bremen heavy lift shipping company Beluga Shipping .
history
The ship's design was designed by the Volharding Shipyards in Westerbroek as a multipurpose heavy lift cargo ship with a deckhouse and three holds in the aft . The ships were built at three different Chinese shipyards. The designation of the ship series results from the ship names which, during the operation by the Beluga shipping company, consisted of a preceding "Beluga" and a subsequent term beginning with the letter "F". The series is divided into three variants with the designations E-240 , E-300 and E-360 , the number of which follows the crane capacity of the ships in coupled operation. After the collapse of the Beluga Group, the F-series ships were sold and are now operated by various other shipping companies. At the heavy lift shipping company Hansa Heavy Lift , which emerged from the Beluga shipping company, the ships of this series taken over by Beluga kept the designation F series.
The ships of the previously built Beluga E series , the BBC Campana class , BBC Maine class and BBC Carolina class are part of the same ship design, but some have different crane capacities.
The ships are mainly used in global voyages for the transport of heavy cargo, general cargo, smaller project cargoes or containers.
Northeast Passage
In 2009, two ships in the series, the Beluga Fraternity and Beluga Foresight , used the Northeast Passage on their voyage from Vladivostok to Europe via the Siberian port of Nowy Port . It was the first voyage by western merchant ships since the Finnish tanker Uikku sailed in 1997.
Capture of the Beluga Fortune
On October 23, 2010, the Beluga Fortune was about 1200 nautical miles east of the port of Mombasa on a voyage from the United Arab Emirates to Richards Bay when it was attacked and captured by Somali pirates. The ship made an emergency call at 07.08 a.m. ( CEST ), the twelve-person crew stopped the ship and then holed up in a security room . A few hours later, the British frigate HMS Montrose arrived at the attacked freighter, whereupon the pirates fled and the Beluga Fortune was able to continue its voyage to Richards Bay.

The volume of the three cargo holds is a total of 15,952 m 3 ; if the removable intermediate deck elements are taken along, a volume of 14,856 m 3 remains . The tank cover is designed for loads of 16 tons / m 2 and reinforced with grabs for cargo handling. The displaceable tween decks can with four tons / m 2 are charged, the hatch covers with 1.75 tons / m 2 . The container capacity is 673 TEU . The ships are equipped with two electrohydraulic NMF ship cranes attached to port , with a lifting capacity of 120, 150 or 180 tonnes, depending on the variant. In coupled operation, depending on the variant, packages of up to 240, 300 or 360 tons can be moved. The holds of the ships are closed with hydraulically operated folding hatch covers.
The propulsion of the ships consists of a four-stroke diesel engine of the type MaK 6M43 with 5400 kW output, which acts via a reduction gear on a variable-pitch propeller and a shaft generator with 875 kVA output. The ships reach a speed of around 15 knots . There are also three auxiliary diesels, each with a capacity of 493 kVA, and an emergency diesel with a capacity of 124kVA. The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .
