The Hansa Heavy Lift GmbH was an international heavy- based in Hamburg , which was specialized in the transport of heavy cargo, project and general cargo. The company filed for bankruptcy in December 2018.

history

The US financial investor Oaktree Capital Management , which was involved in the insolvent Beluga Group , founded the heavy lift shipping company Hansa Heavy Lift with 65 employees. Seven of the fleet of 16 ships at the start of the shipping company came from Beluga Chartering or its associated companies. The other ships belonged directly to Oaktree even before the Beluga Group's insolvency. Hansa Heavy Lift was founded in Bremen , but moved to Hamburg in early 2012 . The company also had offices in Singapore and Houston .

In December 2018, the company filed for bankruptcy after Oaktree no longer wanted to invest any more funds in the company due to the persistently difficult market situation in global heavy lift shipping.

Hansa Heavy Lift operated 14 of its own multi-purpose and heavy lift ships (as of 2018) . The ships had ice class E3, which allows them to sail in ice-covered waters with an ice thickness of up to 1.5 meters. All ships were equipped with heavy lift cranes up to a lifting capacity ( SWL ) of 700 t.
