Fugazi (Vietnam)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fugazi is an American slang term from the Vietnam War . Fugazi was a backronym for " F ucked U p, G ot A mbushed, Z ipped I n" . Correspondingly, it means “sitting in the shit, being ambushed , being put in a body bag ” ( Zipped in means closing the zipper of the body bag).

This referred to hopeless or extremely dangerous combat situations in which every American soldier should try to get away with his life on his own. Above all, he meant situations in which a unit was ambushed by the Viet Cong while marching or on patrol in the confusing jungle .
