Fulcoald (Rouergue)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fulcoald (lat. Fulcoaldus ; † after 837) was a Frankish nobleman in the 9th century, missus in the Rouergue , and is considered the progenitor of the Raimundines , the counts of Toulouse .

According to a diploma issued by the Frankish King and Roman Emperor Ludwig I the Pious on October 21, 837 , Fulcoald was appointed, together with a Ragambald, to be missus (royal messenger) in pago Rutenico ( Rouergue ) and Nemausense ( Nîmois ), i.e. trustee of the ruler in these provinces. It is possible that the Count of Rouergue was connected with it.

The founding deed of Vabres Abbey states that Fulcoald was married to a woman named Senegundis and that their sons were Fredelo and Raimund I , who were able to take over the county of Toulouse in the middle of the 9th century.
