Antonio Spandri

Antonio Spandri (* 1943 in Venice ; † February 28, 2011 in Munich ) was an Italian , Roman Catholic theologian. He was the responsible traveler of the Neocatechumenate for Germany and the Netherlands .

Spandri first studied law in Venice. In the 1960s he got to know the Neocatechumenal Way and joined the first community of the Neocatechumenate in Santa Maria Formosa in Venice. He studied theology in Tübingen and Regensburg , among others with Joseph Ratzinger, the former Pope Benedict XVI.

In 1974, together with his wife Bruna, he became the responsible Itinerant for Germany, later also for the Netherlands, based in Munich. He was instrumental in founding the Redemptoris Mater seminary. Spandri founded 95 communities of the Neocatechumenal Way in Germany - some already in the former GDR - and in the Netherlands and accompanied them in the selection and training of catechists.
