Fumetti neri

Under fumetti neri (Italian; in German "black comics") one understands a variety of Italian comics . They deal with the dark side of people on different, but mostly rather trivial levels. This is often expressed in drastic depictions of violence and sex. With their mixture of eroticism, crime and horror, the fumetti sold many millions of copies in magazine kiosks across the country.

The first very popular Fumetti neri series was Diabolik , which was also filmed by the Italian master director Mario Bava . It differed from previously known superhero series in that the hero was a criminal. A much more violent follow-up series is Kriminal by the later very successful draftsman Roberto Raviola , better known under the stage name Magnus. The genre spawned other known artist such as Milo Manara - he drew the drastic Pirates series Jolanda De Alamaviva also attended by Armando Bonato (author of 30 Diabolik episodes) cooperate - or Leone Frollo , the historic for the notorious horror series Lucifera was responsible .

In the early 1970s the Freibeuter-Verlag tried to establish the fumetti neri on the German market. Series such as Tomba , Oltretomba , Jolanda , Messalina or horror-scary comics were quickly indexed by the Federal Testing Office for Media Harmful to Young People and then disappeared from the market. The small publisher Eagle Productions has published new editions of the genre openly with hardcore pornography in recent years. The series Pig , Story Blue and Oltretomba only had one issue each. Mila Verlag has been publishing fumetti neri comics since 2016.

The Italian splatter and sexploitation cinema was also heavily influenced by the fumetti neri , which were extremely popular there ; this includes films by directors Tinto Brass , Joe D'Amato and Lucio Fulci . The comics have always been subject to severe criticism. They were a thorn in the side of conservatives because of their open-hearted to pornographic sex scenes. In the stories, a very nihilistic view of the world is usually presented and little emphasis is placed on "political correctness". Minorities such as homosexuals are sometimes not portrayed in a friendly manner. This also led to attacks from leftists and liberals.
