Fungible Inc. is a technology company based in Santa Clara , California that develops hardware and software to improve the performance, reliability and cost- effectiveness of data centers .

history

The company was founded in 2015 by Pradeep Sindhu (co-founder of Juniper Networks ) and Bertrand Serlet (former senior vice president of Apple ).

In February 2017, the company raised $ 32 million in a Series A round led by Mayfield Fund, Walden Riverwood Ventures and Battery Ventures. In May, the company raised an additional $ 60 million in a Series B round led by Samsung Catalyst Fund and Redline capital.

In June 2019, the company raised $ 200 million in a Series C round led by SoftBank Vision Fund in collaboration with Norwest Venture Partners and previous investors.

Products

Fungible developed data processors ( english data processing unit , shortly DPU). It is a new type of microprocessor that accelerates data-centric tasks in data centers. A data processor controls the data transfer between network cards, storage devices, CPU and graphics processor . A separate operating system is used for this purpose ( English data plane operating system ). The data processor sends and receives data packets, encrypts and compresses the data and can also act as a firewall.
