The Fuorcha ( Rhaeto-Romanic in the idiom Vallader for "gallows") is the former place of execution of the Lower Engadine communities of Zernez , Susch , Guarda , Lavin , Ardez and Ftan . The word has also been preserved as a field name .

location

The Fuorcha lies between the communities of Susch and Zernez on the right side of the Inn on Zernez territory. To the east of it stretches the God da Güstizia , the « forest of justice». It is a sight on the way of the Senda culturala , the Lower Engadine cultural hiking trail .

The Fuorcha consists of two massive stone pillars, each about 4 meters high and 1.5 meters in diameter at the foot, which are about 6 meters apart on a small level inserted into the slope of the Inn. The wooden beam on which the convicted delinquents were hung was attached to the pillars .

Monument protection

Fuorcha is included in the list of cultural assets of national importance in the canton of Graubünden .
