Futahaguro Kōji ( Japanese 双 羽 黒 光 司 ; born August 12, 1963 in Tsu , Mie Prefecture as Kitao Kōji ( 北 尾 光 司 ); † February 10, 2019 ) was a Japanese sumo wrestler and the 60th yokozuna .

Futahaguro, who initially competed under his real name, was a fighter from the Tatsunami-beya stable and a giant with a height of 1.99 m. At the age of 15 he began his career in the lowest division of the Japanese professional sumo, the Jonokuchi . His fighting name or Shikona , which he first adopted as yokozuna, is a combination of the names of the yokozuna Futabayama and Haguroyama .

After a success in the Kyushu basho in 1985, in which he won his twelfth win against the future yokozuna Hokutoumi , Futahaguro was promoted to Ōzeki . In the following July, despite a defeat in the decisive battle against Chiyonofuji, he was found worthy of the title of yokozuna - although he had not won a tournament in the Makuuchi division up to that point or later . Already in December 1987 and at the age of only 24, Futahaguro resigned and turned his back not only on the active sumo, but also on the sumo association . However, this came under pressure from the association itself after it became known that Futahaguro had attacked the wife of his oyakata .

After his forced departure from the sumo world, Futahaguro dropped his fighting name and tried his luck in wrestling as the third yokozuna after Azumafuji and Wajima from 1990 . In 1998 he said goodbye to active sport. In 2003, the then Tatsunami-oyakata invited Futahaguro to collaborate. But this is primarily to be understood as an affront to his predecessor, with whom he was involved in various disputes.
