As Fuzzy Dice ( English fuzzy , fluffy ', dice , cube') are replicas of playing dice called, the most for as a Plüschwürfel the rearview mirrors of cars.

history

The originally crocheted dice were popular in the Second World War as a good luck charm for the US Air Force. After many former soldiers devoted themselves to the hot rod hobby after the war , the dice gradually became a symbol for it: They signaled the willingness to drive an illegal car race - for this purpose the dice were usually hung on the inside mirror.

The first Fuzzy Dice were sold in the USA in the 1950s. The symbol, which was initially only known in the hot rod scene, quickly became known, so that ultimately numerous people had these cubes in their cars. Gradually they became a general symbol of "combat readiness" and thus also a popular tattoo motif.

In the 1970s and 1980s, the fuzzy dice peaked in popularity. Their distribution then continued to decrease, since u. a. Because of the road races in many states of the USA it was banned from hanging anything on the rearview mirror. As early as 1993, a study by David Hemenway and SJ Solnick in the USA came to the conclusion that there was no connection between using Fuzzy Dice and a conspicuously aggressive driving style.

Today the original meaning of these cubes has almost completely been lost.
