Fyksesund

The Fyksesund is a fjord arm of the Hardanger fjord in the Norwegian municipality Kvam province Vestland .

It reaches a depth of about 160 meters and is about 10 kilometers long, with a width of up to about 750 meters. The fjord flows into the Hardangerfjord at its southern end. Various mountain streams in the area flow into the Fyksesund. The Botnaelva flows into the northern end . On the west side the streams Kaldrassen and Fossabekken , from the east Skoroelva and Kastdalselvi flow into the Fyksesund. The island of Rossholmen lies in the fjord near the mouth of the Hardangerfjord . Around the end of the first half of the fjord, the Fyksesund narrows in Mjåsund to up to 250 meters.

On the banks of the fjord there are only smaller villages and settlements with a total of about 400 inhabitants. At the north end is Botnen , on the west bank Soldal , Flotve , Rykkje , Porsmyr and on the east bank Bjørke , Klyve , Fykse , near the mouth of the Hardanger Fjord Steinstø . At Fykse, Fylkesvei 7 crosses the fjord over the Fyksesund Bridge .

The Fyksesund area is part of the Fyksesund Landscape Park, which was founded in 2007 .
