Gábor Görgey von Görgő and Toporcz (born November 22, 1929 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian playwright, writer and translator of German literature into Hungarian. Until 2003 he was the Minister of Culture of Hungary .

Life

Gábor Görgey is one of the most renowned writers in Hungary. Until 2003 he was Minister of Culture of the Republic of Hungary and decisively promoted the dissemination of Hungarian literature abroad. His five-volume main work Last Report from Atlantis is published by Salon-Verlag. The first volume to be translated, Sirene der Adria (originally the fifth and last part of the novel cycle, but first translated in Germany because of current political references; awarded the “Prize for the Best Book of the Year” in Hungary in 2000) was published in 2004 German, the second volume, Der Jagdteppich (Part 1 in the original order), followed in spring 2006. Görgey also appeared as a playwright with the play Spiegelspiel ( Tükörjátek ), which was published in German in 2000 at the Altenburg-Gera Theater Premiered.
