Gäveskär is a small island belonging to Sweden in the Kattegat .

It is located in the Gothenburg archipelago west of Gothenburg in the province of Västra Götalands län and belongs to the municipality of Gothenburg . The large island of Brännö extends to the south and Norra Gäveskär to the north . The island, formed by a rock cliff, extends in north-south direction only about 130 meters, in east-west direction the island measures only about 50 meters.

At the southern tip of the island is the 10 meter high Gäveskär lighthouse . The current lighthouse has been in operation since 1964. A previous building had existed since 1886. In addition, the southern part of the island is built on with several houses painted in the Falun red typical of Sweden , which gives the island a picturesque appearance given its small dimensions. There is a small port in the northern part of the island.

The ferry routes Göteborg– Kiel and Göteborg– Frederikshavn pass south of Gäveskär .
