Alexander Leonowitsch Kemurdschian
Alexander Leonowitsch Kemurdschian ( Russian Александр Леонович Кемурджиан , Armenian Ալեքսանդր Լեոնի Քեմուրջյան ; born October 4, 1921 in Vladikavkaz ; † February 24, 2003 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Soviet - Armenian engineer. He was the chief developer of the first Lunokhod - Space Mobile . Among other things, he developed Lunochod 2 and a vehicle to clean up the contaminated remains after the meltdown in Chernobyl.
Life
Kemurdschian studied from 1940 at the Moscow State Technical University NE Baumann . From 1942 he took part in the Second World War. After completing his studies at the Baumann University Transport Faculty in 1951, he worked at the Leningrad Transmasch plant and initially developed tanks and hovercraft . As chief developer, he was responsible for the construction of the first Lunochod spacecraft and was involved in the development of the landing apparatus for the Fobos probe .
After the Chernobyl reactor disaster , he developed the STR-1 automatic clearing vehicle based on his experience with the Lunochod. By using this vehicle, the use of people in high-traffic areas could be restricted.
During the time of the Soviet Union, his scientific articles appeared under a pseudonym, since his name should be kept secret. After the end of the Soviet Union, he was able to visit the USA. a. the Jet Propulsion Laboratory . He was still involved in the development of a Mars rover .
Kemurdschian is buried in St. Petersburg in the Armenian cemetery on Decembrist Island.
Honors
- Kemurdschian was awarded the Order of Lenin for developing the Lunochod .
- At the Petersburg Transmasch Institute, a rover center is named after Kemurdschian.
- The International Astronomical Union named the asteroid 5933 Kemurdzhian after him in 1997 .
Movie
In 2008 the documentary Tank on the Moon by the French film director Jean Afanassieff about the Lunochod Rover was released, which was first broadcast on ZDF in 2011 under the title Mit dem Auto auf dem Mond .
