Gérard Edelinck
Gérard Edelinck (born October 20, 1640 in Antwerp , † April 2, 1707 in Paris ) was a French engraver of Flemish origin.
Gérard Edelinck learned his trade from Gaspar Huybrechts (1619–1684) and Cornelius Galle the Younger . In 1666 he went to Paris to Nicolas Pitau (1632–1671). Here he perfected his skills under the guidance of François de Poilly , Robert Nanteuil and Philippe de Champaigne .
More than 400 works are known by Edelinck. He made portraits a. a. by Le Brun , Champaigne, Colbert , Descartes , Dryden , La Fontaine , Nateuil and Rigaud .
Edelinck became a member of the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture in 1677 .
His younger brother Jean (1643–1680) and his son Nicolas (1681–1767) were also engravers.
