Géza Böszörményi

Géza Böszörményi (born June 2, 1924 in Debrecen , Hungary , † August 21, 2004 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian director, screenwriter and actor.

Life

Géza Böszörményi was born on June 2, 1924 in Debrecen , Hungary. He first learned to be a chemical engineer. In 1948 he was arrested by the ÁVH and interned after only 10 minutes of interrogation . He was imprisoned for around five and a half years, from 1950 to 1953 in the notorious Recsk forced labor camp . He processed these experiences in various documentary films and in the feature film Szökés (Escape).

After Stalin's death and the abolition of the forced labor camp, he was released and initially worked as an unskilled worker for a few years before resuming his studies in 1956.

From 1964 to 1968 he studied at the theater and film school in Hungary. He wrote his first screenplay for the film of his future wife and director Lívia GyarmathyDo you know Sunday-Monday? ". It wasn't until he was 46 that he started directing himself.

In 1989 he and his wife made the award-winning documentary film " Recsk 1950-1953 ". He died on August 21, 2004 after a long illness at the age of 81 in Budapest . He was the father of the director Zsuzsa Böszörményi .
