The Haselstein Castle Stable is a late medieval hilltop castle in the Upper Palatinate Forest that has been lost . It is located on a mountain top in a larger forest area between the places Floß (Upper Palatinate) , Flossenbürg and Plößberg in the Upper Palatinate district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab in Bavaria , Germany .
The famous Flossenbürg castle ruins and the Schellenberg castle ruins are located near the Haselstein castle stable .
History of the Haselstein
Medieval castle
From around 1400 to the end of the 16th century, there was a castle complex on Haselstein. Almost no wall remains of this have survived and there are also no more medieval documents. However, the existence of a former castle has been proven through the finds of late medieval remains of clay vessels, stove tiles, roof tiles, forged nails and iron arrowheads.
Haselstein Festival
Most of the dry stone walls that exist today date from around 1860. At that time, the Haselstein castle ruins were converted into a festival and celebration area with terraced areas. This made the former castle completely unrecognizable.
The Haselstein Festival was held from around 1860 to the end of the 1950s. These were usually accompanied by performances by the choral societies from Floß, Flossenbürg and Plößberg. Guests from Weiden, Neustadt and Vohenstrauss took long walks to take part in the festivities.
Renovation work 2012
In August 2012, the excavation and renovation work, which was initiated by a support association of the castle and partly carried out in-house, was completed. The remains of the tower were excavated and some of the masonry was put back on. Since then, the base has been visible again.
