Géza Gulyás (born June 5, 1931 in Budapest , † August 14, 2014 ) was a Hungarian football goalkeeper .

Career

Géza Gulyás began his football career in 1952 with Ferencváros Budapest . There he completed 131 league games between 1952 and 1958. Since the club, which is now Hungary's record champions, was not among the best in Hungary when Gulyás was playing, he could not win a championship title with Ferencváros Budapest. His only title with the club was a victory in the national cup in 1958. After this title Gulyás left the club and joined Láng Vasas , for whom he played for the following six years without celebrating any notable success. In 1964 he ended his active career at the age of 33 and was a coach at Láng Vasas from 1965 to 1973. In 1970 he returned to the football field as a player and stood in goal for two games at Ferencváros Budapest. He scored one goal, the only one in a competitive game in his career.

With the Hungarian national soccer team , Gulyás took part as the third goalkeeper behind Gyula Grosics and Sándor Gellér at the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland . He was not used in the tournament. He did not play an international match, but almost became world champion without having played an international match, because his team, which was considered the best in the world at the time of the World Cup, only lost 3-2 to Germany in the final at the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern .

In the following years she emigrated to the United States and settled there permanently. After his death, his ashes were distributed in a Hungarian football stadium.
