The Gönen Dam ( Turkish Gönen Barajı ) is located 15 km east of the city of Yenice and 25 km southwest of Gönen on the river Gönen Çayı in the western Turkish province of Çanakkale .
The Gönen dam was built in 1979–1997 as an earth-gravel rubble dam. The dam project was implemented as an operator model . The multi-purpose dam is used for irrigation , energy generation , drinking water supply and drainage regulation . The dam is 70 m high (above the valley floor) and has a volume of 2.4 million m³. The associated reservoir has a water surface of 10.4 km² and a storage volume of 164 million m³. The dam is designed to irrigate an area of 16,765 hectares.
The associated hydroelectric power station is located at the foot of the dam. It has two 5.5 MW Francis turbines . The standard work capacity is 47.5 GWh per year.
