history

The company was founded in 1898 as a twist drill manufacturer with 17 employees by Gottlieb Gühring. After the death of the company founder, Oskar Gühring took over the business. In 1921 more than 100 people were employed. After it was dismantled by the occupying forces , Oskar Gühring rebuilt the plant in 1948. Seven years later, an assortment of over 50 twist drills was offered. In 1965 Jörg Gühring joined the company, who is still chairman of the management team. The first national subsidiary in Great Britain was founded in 1973. In 1978 sales activities began on the American continent, and the production of special tools began. In 1980 the world's first titanium nitride coated twist drill was introduced. Eight years later, the company's own carbide production went into operation. In 2000 Oliver Gühring joined the family business. The company is represented worldwide with over 70 production sites in 48 countries.
