Günter Beier (* 1959 in Wuppertal ) is a German painter and sculptor .

life and work

From 1982 to 1985 he studied art education and philosophy at the GHS Essen. From 1987 until 1992 he studied painting at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences. In 1995 Beier moved to Bremen and worked there from 1996 to 1998 in the Blaumeier studio , a project for art and psychiatry.

Beer's main motifs are party and enjoyment products. It presents balloons, popcorn, pralines or rubber candy in bright colors and oversized sizes. Beier wants to create new perspectives. The extreme enlargement of the motifs is intended to sensitize the eye of the beholder to color and composition. Beier himself says that he consciously takes up irrelevant motifs in order not to distract the viewer with an intellectual framework. He also removes the products from their context and presents them against a neutral background. Due to their high magnification, Beier's motifs experience a new aesthetic and open up new levels of observation.

The artist has lived and worked in Hamburg since 2002.
