Günter Brucher

Günter Brucher (born January 19, 1941 in Graz ) is an Austrian art historian .

Life

Günter Brucher graduated from the teacher training college in Graz after graduating from high school. From 1964 to 1969 he studied art history at the Karl Franzens University in Graz . On February 12, 1969, he received his doctorate in philosophy on the subject of "The Facades of the Baroque Churches in Styria from 1690-1760". In the same year he passed the stage maturity test for opera singing in Graz. From 1969 to 1986 he worked at the Art History Institute of the University of Graz, where he completed his habilitation in 1972 and was appointed associate professor for Austrian art history in 1976. In 1986 he was appointed full professor of Austrian art history at the University of Salzburg , where he took over the post of director of the institute in 1988. In 2012, Brucher received the Wilhelm Hartel Prize of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
