Günter Glombitza

Günter Glombitza (born May 27, 1938 in Breslau / Silesia, † May 29, 1984 in Magdeburg ) was a German painter and graphic artist . He was an important painter in the GDR and emerged from the Leipzig School as a student of Bernhard Heisig .

Life

Günter Glombitza originally trained as a carpenter (Zwickau, 1953 to 1955). In this profession he worked first in Zwickau and later in Leipzig, among other things in trade fair construction. During his time in Zwickau, he took painting and drawing courses. 1959 to 1961 military service in the NVA. From 1961 to 1966 he studied at the University of Graphics and Book Art in Leipzig. One of his lecturers was Bernhard Heisig . In 1972 he had his breakthrough at the VII art exhibition of the GDR with the picture “Young Couple”. Until 1976 he worked as a painter and graphic artist in Leipzig, then he moved to Zerbst . In addition to his artistic activity, he also led a painting and drawing circle here.

style

His style originally corresponded to the new objectivity that was popular in the GDR in the 1970s. Later his style changed in the direction of Fantastic Realism , also with surreal features. In his book illustrations, echoes of Art Nouveau can be recognized.
