Herbert Dörenberg (born August 27, 1945 in Waldniel ) is a German soccer coach and former professional soccer player .

Life

Herbert Dörenberg first learned the profession of electrician and was then trained as a sports teacher at the Sports University in Cologne . At the TH Darmstadt he studied politics and sport for a higher teaching post. He started teaching in 1967 and taught until he retired in the summer of 2006. Since he played football during his studies and as a teacher at SV Darmstadt 98 , he could be described as the typical “after-work professional” of the time.

Club career

The midfielder Dörenberg played in his youth and in his first senior years with SC Waldniel before he moved to SC Opel Rüsselsheim in the regional league. He played with SV Darmstadt 98 from 1974 to 1978 in the 2nd Bundesliga South, where he celebrated the championship and promotion to the Bundesliga with his club in 1978 , but then moved to VfR Bürstadt in the Hessenliga, where he ended his active career.

Coaching career

Dörenberg's first station as a coach (1979/80 season) was the VfR Bürstadt team, with whom he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga South. From 1980 he was responsible for 1. FSV Mainz 05 . Although there champion in 1981, he was denied a renewed promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, because in that season this league was reduced to a season and the promotion to the second division was therefore suspended. In the following years he coached the teams of Eintracht Frankfurt (amateurs), Eintracht Bad Kreuznach , SV Wehen , Sportfreunde Eisbachtal , SV 07 Raunheim as well as twice each of the SpVgg Bad Homburg and FSV Frankfurt . However, he could no longer build on the successes with Darmstadt, Bürstadt and Mainz.
