Günter Ullmann (born August 4, 1946 in Greiz , Thuringia ; † May 9, 2009 in Kreischa ) was a German writer, painter and musician. Especially as a lyric poet , he received widespread attention and his work in anthologies .

Life

Ullmann grew up as the third of four siblings in simple circumstances. At school he was a "class bully". In 1966 he passed his Abitur and at the same time - as was common in the GDR at that time - the skilled worker certificate as a bricklayer. Encouraged by the Beatles , he formed a band with friends. He took over his father's drums, sang, composed and wrote his own songs.

He fell out of favor with the GDR authorities because of idiosyncratic texts. Later, with the collapse of the GDR, he got into economic and existential hardship. The sensitive artist suffered because of the repression suffered under persecution complex . He survived two suicide attempts. And he didn't join a single writers' association.

Later, however, there is success. He had exhibitions as a visual artist, concerts with his rock band "media nox". Numerous books of his own have been published, including some specifically with children's poems.

Ullmann died at age 62 of cancer .
