Günter Warthuysen

Günter Warthuysen (* 1937 in Emmerich ) is a former German administrative officer and local historian . In 2016 he was awarded the Rhineland Taler for his historical research work that concerned Wesel and the Lower Rhine .

Career

Warthuysen was born in Emmerich on the Lower Rhine, but one year after his birth the family moved to the nearby town of Wesel. In 1954 he entered the service of the city of Wesel and, after many years of administrative activity, was elected treasurer and alderman of the city in 1990. He held this office until he retired in 1998.

In addition to his professional activity, Warthuysen dealt with the history of Wesel and the lower Lower Rhine. In February 1978 he was one of the founders of the Wesel Historical Association . From the 1980s he published his own historical articles on a regular basis. In 1987 Warthuysen became a member of the board of the Historischen Vereinigung Wesel and from 2002 to 2014 he held the post of deputy chairman. He was significantly involved in the creation of the book series Wesel and the Lower Rhine , which has been published since 2003 . In addition to his work on the book series, he wrote around 30 articles, including 20 contributions to the yearbook of the Wesel district . He dealt with various periods from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. For example, he published an article on the history of coinage on the Lower Rhine. For his service in the local history work Warthuysen was with that in April 2016 the Rhineland Taler of the Regional Association of Rhineland excellent.
