Günter Witzger (born September 22, 1931 ) was a football player in the company sports community (BSG) Motor Zwickau , for which he played in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR football association . Witzger won the GDR soccer cup once and is a two-time young national player.

At the age of 19, in the football season 1950/51, Witzger first played for Motor Zwickau in the GDR league. The Zwickauers competed as defending champions for the GDR soccer championship after they had won the first GDR championship under the name BSG Horch Zwickau in the previous season. The people from Zwickau were unable to repeat this triumph, but they continued to play a good role in the upper league and also in the GDR soccer cup during the time with Günter Witzger. In Witgers first league season, the Zwickau team finished the championship year with third place. This success could be repeated in 1952/53, before a fallback to eleventh place had to be accepted in the following season. The motor team compensated for this by making it to the cup final. On July 3, 1954, Motor Zwickau met with Witzger as right defender on the final opponent ASK Vorwärts Berlin, but surprisingly lost to the second division with 1: 2.

In the past season, Witzger also made an international appearance. He was accepted into the squad of the GDR youth national team and played the first international match of the youth team on July 5, 1953 in Karl-Marx-Stadt (Chemnitz). In the 1-0 victory over Czechoslovakia, Witzger was called up as a center forward. Witzger completed his second and last international youth match on February 7, 1954 in East Berlin. In their second international match, the GDR, again with Witzger as a center forward, reached a 0-0 win against Hungary.

In the 1954/55 season, the company sports association Motor had to deal with the newly founded sports clubs for the first time, but in the end came fifth as the best BSG out of ten sports clubs. In the following seasons, the Zwickau could no longer build on the good placements, it was not until 1960 that they jumped back to fourth place. In 1963, after 13 years, it was finally enough to win the title again. Motor Zwickau had reached the cup final again and met on May 1st with Chemie Zeitz again on a second division side. This time, however, the Zwickau could live up to their role as favorites and won the FDGB Cup for the first time after a 3-0 win. This time, the now 31-year-old Witzger played in his regular position as a half-right striker and scored the interim 2-0 in the 37th minute.

In 1962/63, Witzer was still part of the motor team with 20 league games, but his football career came to an end after that. 1963/64 he played three more times in the league, in the following season he only completed the opening game. On August 9, 1964, he was in the 2-1 victory over Lok Stendal in Zwickau as a right midfielder for the last time in the Motor-Elf. So he had made 245 first division games with 29 goals in his 14 league years.
