Günther Kaltenbacher

Günther Kaltenbacher (born May 12, 1957 in Scheifling , Styria ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). He was a member of the Federal Council from 2000 to 2010 .

education and profession

After Kaltenbacher had completed secondary school in his hometown Scheifling in 1971 , he first attended the polytechnic school before he began training as a steel fitter. When he finished this in 1975, Kaltenbacher signed up as a regular soldier in the armed forces . Here he made up his Matura at the Realgymnasium for professional soldiers in 1980 .

Kaltenbacher has been working for the labor market service in Judenburg since 1980 , now as a branch manager.

Political career

Kaltenbacher was from 1985 to 1990 and from 2000 to 2005 a member of the municipal council of his hometown Scheifling. Since 2000 he has been party chairman of the SPÖ in the Murau district . In November of the same year he entered the Federal Council on behalf of the Styrian Parliament .

The main focus of Kaltenbacher's political activities are in the areas of national defense and sport. In the latter, he heads the relevant Federal Council committee. On October 20, 2010, he resigned from the Federal Council.
