The spiked disc was found in 1879 in the moor near Langstrup near Asminderød in Fredensborg Municipality on North Zealand in Denmark while cutting peat, together with a knife with a decorated handle and two large spiral arm rings made of bronze . A country policeman who happened to be passing the farm bought everything. The following year, an employee of the National Museum discovered the find at an antique dealer.

A picture of the disc adorns the Danish 200-krone note from 2010.

The graves of Egtved , Borum Eshøj and Thorsø Høje prove that such spiked discs were worn by women on their belts.
