GR Thompson

Gary Richard Thompson (born December 11, 1937 in Los Angeles ) is an American literary scholar who has made a name for himself with his work on Edgar Allan Poe .

He studied at San Fernando Valley State College (BA 1959) and the University of Southern California (MA 1960, Ph.D. 1967). He taught English literature from 1962-63 at Ohio State University, Columbus , 1964-66 at UCLA , 1967-72 at Washington State University and finally from 1972 at Purdue University , to which he is still professor emeritus.

In 1968 he founded the journal Poe Studies , which also honored him with a festschrift in 2006 .
