history

GEKA was founded in 1925 by Georg Karl in Bechhofen (Ansbach district) as a brush factory for the production of all types of brushes. This was followed by the manufacture of cosmetic brushes, starting with nail polish brushes, then expanding to include powder brushes, eyeliner and mascara brushes. This was followed by the first steps towards plastics processing, which was expanded over time. In the following years there was an increasing focus on mascara . From 1970 the company specialized in the development and manufacture of premium applicators for the cosmetics industry. In 1971 the VICTORIA trading division was acquired, which is now known as GEKA Accessories. This includes various commercial products for the beauty sector. Finally, in 1983, the modular system was introduced, which is used for the over-the-counter product line from GEKA Style .

Equita, a medium-sized investment company of the Quandt family, acquired GEKA in 2004. In 2005/2006, GEKA launched the first injection-molded plastic brushes for mascaras on the cosmetics market.

Halder bought GEKA in 2007 with the co-investor Idinvest (formerly AGF Private Equity) from the investment company Equita. In 2008/09 production facilities were opened in Elgin , Chicago and a sales office in Paris . In 2009/10 the name was changed from GEKA Brush to GEKA GmbH, and the company's portfolio was also restructured. In 2011, full-service activities were introduced with our own filling plant.

In 2012 a majority stake in GEKA was taken over by the British financial investor 3i , whereby the GEKA group had 650 employees and in 2011 generated a turnover of 110 million euros in 2011. Under 3i, Geka expanded to Asia and Latin America, for which GEKA do Brasil and GEKA Asia Pacific were founded in 2015. The company opened a production site in São Paulo and a sales office in Shanghai . In addition, OEKA Oehlhorn GmbH & Co KG iI, a German manufacturer of plastic and metal components, is based in Bamberg. In the same year the 3 divisions GEKA Beauty, GEKA Healthcare and GEKA Accessories were founded.

In 2016, GEKA was acquired by the Swiss industrial group Sulzer and is now part of their “Applicator Systems” division. According to its own information, the company wanted to strengthen its most profitable Chemtech division, which produces plastic parts using injection molding, with the € 260 million takeover .
