GEO subject lexicon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The GEO Subject Lexicon ( ISBN 3-7653-9420-3 ) was published in a first series from September 2006 to May 2007 in 20 volumes . From October 2007 to 2009 a continuation of the lexicon was published in another 15 volumes, which finally brought the series to an end. Authors from GEO and Brockhaus provide information on various topics on around 17,500 pages . The topics are sorted alphabetically and comprise around 130,000 key words and 16,000 images . The subject lexicon wants to move away from the mere index. Several reports, so-called dossiers (around 4,320 pages), published in the magazine GEO - Das neue Bild der Erde , frame the lexical part in the individual volumes.

In terms of content, the lexicon part of each volume corresponds to that of a corresponding subject lexicon from Brockhaus-Verlag. For example, the three volumes on the subject of medicine are identical in content to the Brockhaus subject lexicon "Medicine". This also applies to the topics of astronomy, psychology, religions and history.
