The Grupo Tecnologico e Industrial GMV SA is a Spanish company in the field of aviation and aerospace operates.

history

In 1980 the university professor Juan José Martínez García founded a working group called "Grupo Mecánica del Vuelo" . In 1984 the first company was founded.

The areas of flight analysis, flight dynamics, control centers , simulation and satellite navigation were among the first areas of activity of GMV . The GMV worked early on behalf of the European Space Operations Center of ESA in Darmstadt . At the end of the 1980s, the company had almost 100 employees. In 1988 the work of the group was recognized by the ESA as the "Center of Excellence in Orbital Mechanics" .

At the beginning of the 1990s, GMV decided to expand its business into the areas of transport and telecommunications, as well as IT for public administrations. The focus here was on the development of fleet management systems with GPS and the development of geographic information systems . At the end of the 1990s the number of employees had risen to more than 300. The company generated almost 50% of total sales of 20 million through the new business areas.

In 2000 GMV and other Spanish companies founded the company GSS (Galileo Sistemas y Servicios SL), which ultimately holds 12% of the shares in the Galileo consortium . In 2001 Mónica Martínez Walter took over the management and Luis Mayo became managing director. A US subsidiary was founded in 2004. May 2005 the group took over the Portuguese competitor Skysoft .
