Gabriela Slavec is a Slovenian balloon athlete . In 2010 she became the first European female champion in hot air ballooning in Alytus , Lithuania .

Athletic career

Slavec relegated British Lindsay Muir and Polish Jolanta Matejczuk to the medal ranks at the first FAI European Women's Championship . Two years later, Muir, 2010 runner-up, won the European Women's Championship in Frankenthal (Palatinate) . Slavec came in 8th place with the start number "1". At the 17th FAI European Championships for both sexes, Slavec came in 62nd place in 2011. There she was the second best female pilot behind Ann Herdewyn from Belgium (49th place).

Slavec did not take part in other FAI World and European Championships for women.

Slavec is married and mother, she lives with her family in Brazil .

Alytus

The European Championship was held from June 15-20, 2010. On three days from 17. – 19. five trips with 15 tasks can be carried out. Although Muir won the second and third tasks with 1000 points each, Slavec was the more consistent in the lead after the first run. Slavec won the seventh task and was able to extend their lead on the second and third runs. Muir was able to shorten the distance significantly on the fourth run and just about relegated Matejczuk to third place on the last and fifth runs. The three medal winners had 11,488, 10,778 and 10,701 points in the final accounts. 27 female pilots from 11 countries took part in the competition.
