Gabriele Askamp

Gabriele Askamp , also called Gaby , (born July 12, 1955 in Bremerhaven ) is a German swimmer , Olympic participant and three-time German champion.

biography

Askamp trained at SSG Bremerhaven / GTV and then at OSC Bremerhaven . In 1973 she was ranked ninth in the best list of the German Swimming Association over 100 meters of crawl and over 100 or 200 meters back in 16th or 13th place and over 200 meters in individual positions in 7th.
After graduating from high school, she took part in the German Swimming Championships in Hanover in 1975 and won the 100 m chest in 1: 14.50 minutes, before she had switched her discipline from back and crawl to chest. At the 1975 World Cup, she was sixth. In 1976 she defended her title of German champion in 100 m chest in Bonn and also won the 200 m chest. At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, she took fifth place in the finals in 100 m. Before that, in March 1976 she had reached the German record of 1: 13.61 minutes over 100 meters and her best time over 200 meters chest with 2: 39.84 minutes.

After the Summer Olympics in 1976 Askamp retired from competitive sports and has lived in Weilheim since 1985.
