history

The men's gymnastics club in Geestendorf was founded in Geestendorf in 1862 and shortly afterwards the Geestemünder gymnastics club in the neighboring town of Geestemünde . Both clubs merged in 1866 as the Geestendorf-Geestemünder-Turnverein , which in 1890, after the merger of the two communities, traded as GTV. In 1896 the GTV also accepted women and girls. In 1919 the swimming department with water polo offers was founded. In 1921/22 the football, handball, athletics and tennis department and in 1922 the table tennis department were established in the GTV. In 1923 a new club emerged from the football department; In 1930, however, a new football department was created. In the 1920s and 1930s, handball players always took part in championships and finals. From 1936 to 1940 the GTV track and field athletes were leaders in the circle.

After the Second World War , all Geestemünde clubs initially formed the Geestemünde sports community . The GTV existed again in 1948. From 1950 to 1965 Carsten Döscher was the club's chairman during the development phase; he was followed by Georg Kohlmann until 1972, Jörn Model until 1992 and Jens Klempow until 2005. In 1957 the club house was rebuilt at the Bürgerpark sports field (1980: conversion and extension, 1989: fitness room). Sports communities were formed in 1970: the handball players from GTV and GSC formed the HS Geestemünde (HSG), the swimmers from GTV and Bremerhaven 93 formed SGS Bremerhaven, and the gymnasts formed a community with TV Lehe. In 1976 the shooting sports department was added.
