Gabriele Stegmüller-Zimmermann

Gabriele Stegmüller-Zimmermann (nee Zimmermann ; born November 9, 1925 in Stuttgart ; † November 2, 2011 ) was a German flautist and university teacher .

Life

She played the piano and flute in her youth and won a youth music competition in 1943. From 1946 she played with the Radio Stuttgart Symphony Orchestra and studied at the Stuttgart State University of Music . She continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold and graduated as a flutist in 1950. In the same year she began as a flautist with the Stuttgart Philharmonic , where she was first flutist until 1960. At that time she was the only woman in the Stuttgart Philharmonic and the only female solo flutist in a German professional orchestra.

From 1959 she was a lecturer, from 1971 professor for transverse flute at the University of Music Trossingen , until she retired in 1985.

She was married to Hans Stegmüller , who was professor for viola at the Trossingen University of Music. The couple last lived in Stuttgart-Riedenberg .
