Viertel's work was first published in 2013 and quickly gained worldwide attention. The works, known as the “Redefinition of Underwater Photography ”, have been published by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art , Vogue Italia and Cosmopolitan , among others . Numerous awards and exhibitions in galleries and museums in Europe and the USA followed.

Conceptually, Viertel's pictures play with the dialogue between the media of painting and photography. The magical, often surreal imagery and the lighting design as a dramaturgical stylistic device are characteristic means of expression. In her photographic work, she deals artistically with the expression of the body.
