Isaiah Ceccarelli

Isaiah Ceccarelli (born March 22, 1978 in Chetwynd , British Columbia ) is a Canadian jazz and improvisation musician (percussion, drums, composition, vocals) who is active in the music scene of Montréal .

Isaiah Ceccarelli grew up in San Bernardino, California , where he played drums in a gospel band . He took private tuition when he was twelve before going to college in Boston. He then studied with Ed Shaughnessy and u. a. with John Hazilla at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he became increasingly involved with improvised music. Ceccarelli then continued his studies at the Paris Conservatory of Music. In 2003 he moved to Montreal; there he worked with Jean Derome and Pierre Tanguay ; He also organized concerts at Zeke's Gallery, where he performed with musicians such as Joane Hétu , Lori Freedman , Derome and soon with his own ensembles. This resulted in his debut album Lieux-Dits (2009), u. a. with Frank Lozano , Jean Derome, Steve Raegele , Clinton Ryder . In the following years he also worked with Neal Haiduck , Felix Stussi , Liza Melfi , Gary Schwartz , Pierre-Yves Martel and in the formations Effendi Jazzlab, Quartetski and the Pierre Labbé 4Tet ( Manivell , 2009, with Bernard Falaise , Clinton Ryder). In 2008 he presented the duo album Vulgarités ( Ambiances Magnétiques ) with Michel F. Côté , followed by Bréviaire d'Epuisements (2010, with Lori Freedman, Philippe Lauzier , Pierre-Yves Martel). In 2010 he recorded the album Subtle Lip Can in a trio with Bernard Falaise (guitar) and Joshua Zubot (violin) . He was involved in 16 recording sessions from 2005 to 2013. Ceccarelli is also active as a singer of early music and as a composer.
